Summer Goals 2007

Posted on June 22nd, 2007 in working out, goals by Kyle

In Feburary I said this on another forum I frequent:

Quote:

I would like to start throwing at my college peak velocity again, which was in the mid-80’s. I would like to hit a significant amount of doubles and steal a significant amount of bases, and become a very good amateur league player.

While I’ve dropped not as much weight as I’d like (down to 205 from 215), my fastball is peaking at 80 mph. I’ve been working on shortening my arm action (making it more “elbowy”), loading my scapula (controversial velocity-adding method), and working on getting “over the wall” and acheiving a better weight shift. I threw with my pitching coach yesterday for the first time in a month and he said my velocity had improved significantly.

My hitting stats are:

.379/.486/.586 over 35 PA / 29 AB
11 H, 6 2b, 8 RBI, 9 R, 6 SB, 4 K, 4 BB, 2 HBP

Five out of the first six hits I had in the season were doubles, so that was a great start to the year! I need to get in the cages more often, as I’ve been mainly focusing on defense (getting work in the outfield as of late due to injuries) and pitching, and haven’t hit out of the cage in about three weeks.

My Goals for the Summer:
-Throw strikes consistantly
-Hit one home run
-Steal 15 bases
-Lose 15 pounds

Hi Kyle, this is Carlos Gomez from The Hardball Times and BaseballThinkfactory.org. I watched some of your video on Youtube and the HUGE thing I think you need to work on is speeding up your body.I worked on arm action so much when I was struggling where I shoud’ve worked more on my body drive forward. In a word, you are way slow in the tempo department. Next time, you throw tell yourself, as you are getting to the “balance point,” that you are gonna speed up your body to release as fast as you can and then throw the Shyte out of the ball. Your velocity should improve and improve quickly if you decide to move your body quickly through space.
    Sincerely,
    Carlos Gomez
